MARSHALL THE MERCHANT
Marshall soon discovers there is little left of the Rigby
wealth and decides the only course left was to return to sea as a merchant.
First he becomes involved in the Greek’s fight
for independence from the Turks. Eventfully he manages to sail abroad
as a deep water merchant, yet not free of trouble. In offering assistance
his ship is placed in danger.
To save it and his crew, he’s again drawn into
a warlike conflict as a mercenary. A relative drives him to financial
ruin and with the threat of imprisonment for fraud, he flees to back to
sea seeking trade in East Africa and the Arabian Sea. This becomes even
more disastrous.
